What is the green knight about?

The Green Knight is a character in the medieval poem "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight". He is described as a giant and intimidating figure, dressed entirely in green. He enters King Arthur's court during a New Year's celebration and challenges any knight to strike him with his axe, on the condition that the challenger must seek him out in exactly one year to receive the same blow in return. Sir Gawain takes up the challenge and decapitates the Green Knight, but to his surprise, the knight picks up his own head and reminds Gawain of his promise to meet him again.

The Green Knight is often interpreted as a representation of nature, or of the natural world's power over humanity. His green attire may symbolize growth, renewal, and life. He tests Gawain's chivalry and moral character, and serves as a reminder that even the greatest heroes must face challenges and uphold their commitments.
